Payment
Despite being widely implemented throughout Europe, Regenerative Medicine and its associated Pain Rehabilitation Procedures are considered to be "Alternative Medicine" and, as such, not a covered service under Medicare or most insurance plans, and physicians are therefore not usually allowed to bill insurance companies for these procedures.
Delmarva Mobile Regenerative Orthopedic Medicine And Pain Management does not participate in Medicare, Medicaid, or any individual or group insurance plan. We accept cash and personal checks. We respectfully request that payment be made in full at the time services are rendered.
Explanation of Charges
Determining the most appropriate treatment regimen necessitates the taking of oral history, review of available medical records, and the performance of a pertinent physical, orthopedic and neurological examination as well as diagnostic imaging, specialized tests, and laboratory studies, if necessary. All injection therapy techniques are implemented only after satisfying essential prerequisite criteria which include identifying the nidus of pathology, diseased or degenerated tissue, and the nature and extent of involvement. Based on multiple considerations the injectable solution, strength, and amount are selected to accomplish the desired effect and only medical oxygen is utilized to produce ozone. The deposition of the therapeutic agents is enhanced by ultrasound guidance when necessary. Sterile injectables and equipment as well as aseptic techniques are always utilized. If requested, the injection site can be anesthesized.
For Cost Comparison Purposes
Prolozone injection therapy typically runs from $250 to $350 per body part e.g. knee, shoulder. An effective alternative regenerative medicine procedure would include PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) injections that utilize the patient's own blood platelets which have stem cell properties in a process whereby they are injected back into the patient's joint, ligament, or tendon. This process is less than ten years old and is a very effective way to address joint osteoarthritis without artificial joint replacement surgery. Its response is very similar to that from prolozone injections, however, the cost can be around $1,500 per injection. This is also not covered by insurance. Stem Cell injections range between $5,000 and $50,000. Conventional medicine typically offers "steroid" injections which may create some temporary relief but carries with it all the metabolic concerns that steroids cause on the human body, not to mention the fact that repeated injections actually de-mineralize bone and materially alter tendons, ligaments, and cartilage thereby increasing the mechanical instability of the joint. While Regenerative Medicine and Pain Rehabilitation procedures will not be reimbursed by insurance, it does not mean that it will cost you more out of pocket than a surgical procedure. For example, a typical knee replacement surgery cost maybe $45,000 – 70,000 for patients without insurance. Also, patients with insurance usually have to incur any out of pocket deductible that may be in the thousands. Even Medicare patients are expected to have an average out of pocket expense for a knee replacement of around $4,500.
There are of course other additional costs associated with surgeries such as the need for any number of modifications in your home during your recovery period. Wage loss considerations are a real concern due to the extended recovery period. Prolozone, as the Regenerative Medicine and Pain Rehabilitation procedure, does not require any of the aforementioned.
Another thing to keep in mind is that you can always get surgery after any Regenerative Medicine and Pain Rehabilitation procedure. In fact, some conditions respond better to surgery if the patient had Regenerative Medicine first, for the area has been “built up” with new and stronger tissue (ligaments, tendons, and cartilage). After surgery, the Prolozone procedure may be more limited from a regenerative standpoint since the surgical area has been structurally altered, however, the pain reduction capability remains viable.
